I love January. It’s a time so full of possibilities…not that other times aren’t, but life seems especially hopeful at the beginning of each new year.
Every December I do a year-end wrap up and plan for the New Year with my coaching clients. We look at what we’ve learned and how we’ve grown over the year just ended, and set intentions and goals for the next 12 months. I do the same for myself, as well.
One of the most important aspects of being radiant is creating a theme that will be the foundation that we build the year upon. I found it really interesting that this year most of my clients and friends, (I even heard a report on the radio!) say their theme for 2012 is “the year of me”.
Critics might say, “That’s sounds selfish”; well, they are wrong. Taking care of yourself is the most selfless thing you can do because it creates more energy so that you have more energy to give. Discovering more about yourself has a positive impact on everyone around you. Bringing out your inner light, creating, and sharing serves the world. Seriously, what could be more important than those things?!
Flight attendants will tell you to “Put on your oxygen mask before assisting others”. If you are unconscious, you are no good to anyone…except people willing to take advantage of you. If you are a dog-tired, overworked, out-of-alignment disaster, how are you going to be your best? You’d be ripping us off.
When you know and care for yourself, you give others permission to know and care for you too. Your life is filled with love, joy, connection, creativity, and vision. You choose to respond rather than react to stressful situations and you aren’t being dragged around by your emotions. You are mindful and know that what is in your heart enables you to empathize with what is in the hearts of others.
“There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anaïs Nin
You can spend years ignoring your own needs, but in the long run, it’s easier to take care of yourself a little each day: meditate, read, stretch, speak your truth, do whatever makes you happy, and then take care of your priorities.
Know that whether you want to have more fun, be more adventurous, find more quiet time, or simply change old habits that no longer serve you this year, it’ll be perfect. My theme for 2012 is playfulness, and I am letting my five-year-old out to run things…being too serious is such a buzz kill.
If this is YOUR year to truly take care of YOU at the deepest levels and to create more bliss in your life, be all in without holding back even a little. Because when you do, you spread joy like the ice cream man on a hot summer day.
What is your theme this year? Let us know in the comment box so we can support you and be inspired by you. It is totally legit to copy someone else’s theme if you love it.

My Upcoming Book and Coaching Program
Awaken the Champion
As many of you know, I spent the majority of my life coaching at the elite levels of gymnastics. Here’s the thing…I spent years striving and accomplishing, but still felt empty inside. The problem was I was looking for external “gold medals”, when I really just needed to wake up to the gold that is my essence. Once I did, everything changed.
Excellence is not reserved for a few elite performers. We all have traits of champions inside us. Imagine never feeling “stuck” again…imagine trusting that you have access to levels of awareness and wisdom to create freedom and possibilities in every aspect of your life. Whether you want more from your finances, romance, or any other facet of life, you’ll discover how to recognize within yourself that what you thought was unreachable can now become YOUR reality.
Discover how applying a few simple shifts in awareness will get you to where you want to be. What used to be confusing becomes clear; what once felt overwhelming becomes inspiring, and you’ll radiate success.
I’d love your feedback on what you think of the title and concept.
