When we see things through bright, fresh eyes we are experiencing life from a new perspective. If we have gotten stuck in old, worn out ways of thinking and acting it may be time to try on a fresh view.
Imagine seeing a situation, as though for the first time, noticing the details, noticing how you feel, and noticing how much more is illuminated. This gives us an opportunity to see the light and possibilities in everyone and everything.
It reminds me of the story of two elderly sisters. One was always happy and joyful, seeing the beauty of each day. And the other was constantly complaining “what a terrible, gray day again, I don’t’ even want to go out”
One day the happy sister came to visit and listened to her grumpy sister’s complaints. Then, she gently removed her sister’s glasses, cleaned them off, and put them back on her. Now, The sister was so happy! “Finally, it’s a beautiful day, let’s go out!”
If you are a person who tends to see things a “certain way” or wants to make them black and white, then I invite you to practice seeing things in a new way. Consider many angles and possibilities, contemplating “what else is possible?”.
We may have the dust of delusions on our mind distorting our view, so it is time to clean it off and see things differently and creatively.
What is keeping you from seeing the joy and beauty of life?
excellent article, but i have some trouble in understanding the final paragraph, could you please describe a little bit indepth?
Thank you for your comment. Please excuse my tardiness with this reply, I am in Bali and not on line every day.
The dust of delusion is a Buddhist principle that means we often have thoughts that get in the way of our “seeing”. It is like trying to see in a mirror that is covered in dust, we do not see our true reflection.
The invitation is to look at what might be getting in our way from seeing what is true. Thoughts like, “I’m not good enough”, any excuses, or complacency that keep us from seeing the possibilities.
I learned to do this in my business many years ago. I’d walk in as though it was for the first time and ask what could I do to make it better. Now, I practice this with my life by always looking at what else is possible and how I can stretch and grow myself. Life is never boring!
