Getting My Groove Back

June 15, 20123 CommentsAppreciation, co-creation, Empowerment, Joy, perspective, Radio Shows, willingnessBy David Million

Recently, I was working on my latest project and feeling really overwhelmed and stuck. I tried distracting myself for a while. I stretched, and even tried meditating, but I wasn’t feeling any less stuck. I was starting to beat myself up for not being able to figure this out.

Then it occurred to me…I need help. You see, I am one of those people who is super great at helping others, but I’d be the last person to ask for help (sound familiar?).

When I was a gymnast I never would have dreamed of competing without a coach, and since 1998 I had a life and business coach. But he moved on to a new career so we haven’t worked together in about a year. I figured, “I AM a coach and I have lots of friends who are coaches who can help me when I need it, I’ll be fine”. Wrong.

I asked myself, “who is the best coach for me right now?” and the answer came to me immediately: Patrick Ryan. I called my mentor and dear friend that very moment. He agreed to work with me and we had our first session the next day.

Just by asking for help when I needed it (okay, I could have asked sooner, but I hadn’t had the epiphany yet!) and being open to receive it, I was flying out of my “stuck”ness like a handful of mashed potatoes at a 6th grade food fight.

Patrick helped me reconnect to my essence. I remembered how to have fun, feel free, and get my creative juices flowing! Oh man, did I ever get my groove back!

Going through the process with him I realized how easy it is for me to help someone else through this process, but so difficult to do it for myself. Just more proof that we need a team behind us; it is okay to ask for help.

In a nutshell:
1. I became aware of how I felt.
2. I became aware of what I needed and wanted.
3. I asked for it and got it.
4. I am able to serve in a much more meaningful way because I have MY groove.

Where could you ask for help to get your groove on?

    Hi Tam
Thank you for sharing this – we need to know it’s ok to get help. I recently joined a mastermind group knowing I needed people who could help me uplevel my business. I feel relaxed and clear even though there’s A LOT of work to be done. “Knowing” is such a huge stress relief. Even more interesting is I know where I want to go but not exactly how to get there but with my new team I continue to trust the process and know I will arrive in my time and God’s time!

Onward the journey. Please keep sharing.
